Our Mary Talmage Local History Room houses a collection of materials consisting of photographs, postcards, scrapbooks, maps, newspaper clippings, oral histories, and many unique items that were originally housed in the Soldier's and Sailor's Memorial Building, and moved to our present location at 338 Main Street.

Room Hours

Our Local History Room, located on the second floor of the Main Building is open from 1:30pm-3:30pm on Tuesdays or book an appointment with us! A librarian will be available to answer your genealogy and history related questions or you are invited to just browse the collection: To make individual appointments or for more information, contact The Local History Room at 631–427-5165 or by email: hplhistoryroom@huntlib.org.

Genealogy & History Periodicals

American Ancestors appeals to family historians of all levels. Major topics include useful sources, helpful research strategies, compelling historical accounts, and interesting case studies. American Ancestors is free to members.
The Journal of the Suffolk County Historical Society (formerly the Register) is a free publication for Society members and is available by subscription only to libraries and institutions. The Society welcomes Journal contributions relating to all aspects of the history and natural history of Suffolk County and its peoples, the genealogy of Long Island families, and general information on genealogical research.

Each issue is chock-full of informative articles that show and tell readers how to do effective genealogical research using the most current information, sources, and techniques.
Regular columns discuss National Archives records, technology, genetic genealogy, and reference topics.

New York Archives, published quarterly by the Archives Partnership Trust, is an educational publication about New York State history as revealed by research in archival records maintained throughout the state.
