Stanko's colorful artwork is inspired by nature, contemporary society and pop culture.
Mike Stanko finds inspiration in the world around him. He loves using references and imagery from popular culture. Mike is well aware that one of the basic roles of art is to serve as a mirror of its time by portraying society in condensed form. His transformation of the source image typically includes reducing the color palette to saturated primaries, eliminating incidental details, heightening contrasts and emphasizing the pictorial imagery. Stanko takes a stand between reality and artificially high art and mass culture, abstraction and figuration, and the manual and mechanical - to reveal their interdependence.
