Please join us to discuss "The Immoderation of Ifat" by Sara Suleri and "Now We are Five" by David Sedaris.
Gain exposure to great literature through the library’s Great Books program, which has reached its eighteenth anniversary. Participants find the Shared Inquiry™ approach, popularized by the Chicago-based Great Books Foundation, to be a powerful learning tool. There are no right or wrong answers, no papers and no tests! The readings are short and are suited to our busy lifestyles. We are currently reading from the anthology Counterparts, in which the readings complement each other by highlighting different aspects of a given theme. We are making Counterparts available gratis upon registration, thanks to a generous donation from friends and family of a former group member. For more information, contact Tom Cohn at 631-427-5165, x 270 or e-mail to tom_cohn@huntlib.org. Check out our blog at hplgreatbooks.blogspot.com. Registration is required. Open to all.

In the “Immoderation of Ifat,” an excerpt from her memoir Meatless Days,Pakistani-American author Sara Suleri remembers her sister Ifat, tragically caught up in her country’s civil war of the 1970s. American humorist David Sedaris in “Now We are Five” tells the story of a family beach vacation in which he and his siblings reminisce about their sister Tiffany who had long kept herself apart from the family.
