Please join us to discuss "A Still Moment" by Eudora Welty (1909-2001).
We invite you to share in an exploration of highly regarded classics of literature, history and philosophy through a discussion technique known as “Shared Inquiry.” Selections are from Great Conversations 5, available for purchase at the Main Library front desk at the reduced price of $10, thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.
Welty, one of our great American Southern writers of the twentieth century, first published this short story in 1952. It incorporates three real-life historical figures: the Methodist Minister Lorenzo Dow, the bandit James Murrell, and the great naturalist and artist J. J. Audubon, whose lives intersect during their travels on the historic Natchez Trace Trail between Mississippi and Tennessee.
