How do art institutions decide which artwork to acquire, display and preserve for future generations?

This presentation offers a behind-the-scenes look at the collection strategies of The Heckscher Museum of Art, tracing how it has transformed over the years. Using selected artworks as case studies, we will explore the many factors that shape collection-building today. This presentation illuminates the often invisible work of collection management, the stories behind key acquisitions, and the way museums serve as guardians of our shared cultural memory. Registration is required. Open to all.
