Great Books Reading and Discussion Group

Please join us to discuss "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love" by Raymond Carver (1938 - 1988).

A group of veteran members now manages this long-standing Huntington Public Library book group. We invite you to share in an exploration of highly regarded classics of literature, history, and philosophy through a discussion technique known as “Shared Inquiry. Selections are from Great Conversations 2, available for purchase at the Main Library front desk for at the reduced price of $10 thanks to a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.

Synopsis: Mel, Terri, Nick and Laura are sitting around the kitchen table drinking gin and tonics and talking. Somehow they get on the subject of love and past love affairs they’ve had. Mel, a cardiologist, relates tales from his hospital of people who have literally died for love. Carver’s 10-page story has become a classic of contemporary American fiction.
