This course will introduce you to using nautical charts, GPS, and a smartphone to plan, navigate, and check your progress on the water. Topics include determining safe routes, creating waypoints, and basic electronic navigation and planning using the free downloadable OpenCPN software. This seminar is an excellent foundation for advanced courses that teach piloting and celestial navigation skills.
The Station Branch is located south of the LIRR train station on New York Avenue (Route 110). It has public computers for children, teen and adults, a large community room on the second floor as well as five smaller meeting rooms and a classroom style training room.
